Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, has told his former club, Paris Saint-Germain that money alone cannot win the Champions League.
The Brazilian said that the French capital city club must make major changes in order to stand a chance of winning a maiden European trophy.
The 36-year-old, who left PSG for Chelsea after the French side denied him an improved contract, told his former club that: “Money won’t win you the Champions League.”
Maurice Pochettino’s PSG were knocked out of the Champions League in the last-16 by Real Madrid, in a result which Silva described as ‘incredible’ and ‘unimaginable’.
Silva, who spent almost ten years in the French capital, did not win the Champions League until he joined Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea last season.
Speaking to Canal+, the 37-year-old said: “The elimination was incredible, unimaginable for us who are PSG supporters.
“Every year it’s the same thing. There are things you have to look at to try to improve them in the future.
“As things are, it’s difficult to continue to progress. Every year, we [PSG] start from scratch. You can’t do that in football.
“Even if PSG have a lot of money, that’s not what makes you win in football. That’s not how we’re going to win the Champions League.”
