Liverpool as offer €50 million for Barcelona Midfielder after club release clause

As Barcelona’s contract negotiations with midfield prodigy Gavi drag on, they are facing a serious threat from other clubs who could swoop in for the teenage sensation in the summer transfer window.

The 17-year-old’s current contract with Barcelona expires in the summer of 2023 and despite negotiations taking place, a deal is yet to be agreed upon.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his displeasure at Gavi’s agent Ivan de la Pena for delaying the contract agreement, while also adding that the club would not be improving the current offer that they have tabled.

Laporta’s comments have not gone down too well in the Spanish international’s camp, adding more tension to the situation. And now, SPORT is reporting that Liverpool are planning to take advantage of the situation by making a move to sign Gavi.

The 17-year-old’s current contract with the Catalans comes with a release clause worth €50 million. And the UEFA Champions League finalists are now considering triggering the clause as they wish to land him in the summer.

The report states that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Gavi and has been following his progress for a while. The Merseysiders believe that he can be a fine addition to their roster and, hence, are prepared to shell out €50 million even though he is just 17.

However, what works in favour of Barcelona is that the Spanish international is not contemplating an exit at this point. The La Masia graduate is settled in Catalonia and wants to continue at the club.

So, even though Liverpool would be able to offer him a much more lucrative contract, Gavi would prefer to stay at Camp Nou. However, it is imperative that Barcelona resolve any misunderstandings with the player’s camp and get him to sign on the dotted line at the earliest.
